“Location Based VR & Entertainment in Italy”: the video of the event
The fourth meeting of AWE Nite Firenze, “Location Based VR & Entertainment in Italy”, was held on April 29th at 5:00 pm.
Three professionals from the LBEVR sector in Italy took part in the event:
– Giovanni Fantoni Modena CCO and Co-Founder of Vitruvian VR
– Marco Arena Co-Founder of BEYOND THE GATE.
– Alessandro Martire CEO of THE PORTAL
Three very interesting speeches that showed how the development of the LBEVR sector can become an interesting proposal for the next future.
What happened during the event
During the event, the speakers presented their current and future projects related to the gaming, entertainment and museum sectors, showing very high standards in the production of their machinery and software prototypes applicable to the Location Based VR & Entertainment sector.
The Zoombombing – who they are and what they did
Unfortunately, the conference was interrupted several times by the Zoombombing, the jammers who found the ZOOM link on the net and managed to join the online group, accessing screen sharing.
The Zoom link was compromised and the whole meeting suffered a series of unwanted interruptions from people taking over screen sharing and showing inappropriate images.
It’s incomprehensible to understand the reason for such obstinacy in making the continuation of the event complicated. We managed to block them by winning them in speed, but it was not easy, because while we were trying to block one, it disappeared from the conference and at the same time another was sharing completely out of place images.
Only when the reporting of the names to the ZOOM control system started, the bad guys disappeared from the conference, which was able to conclude with an excellent debate.
We are very sorry for what happened, both with the speakers and the people who followed the event live.
We are equally sorry that we had to delay the publication of the video of this event.
In order to give the speakers the opportunity to show their work, we have reconstructed the entire video of the meeting, with the interventions of the three invited professionals. You can see it on the Official YouTube AWE Channel:

THE WEEKLY SPATIAL
The protagonists of the event
1) Welcome & Introduction by CECILIA LASCIALFARI | Co-Founder ARea6DoF| Creative Strategist Technologist | Event Coordinator AWE Nite Florence
The introduction focused on a 2019 Forbes article titled “Location-Based VR: the next phase of Immersive Entertainment,” in which columnist Anshel Sag says that LBEVR is an area that shows a lot of promise for the future. LBEVR is a space that hosts virtual reality experiences, allowing users to physically interact with the environment, in a way they cannot do in their own homes.
LBE is a revolution in the field of Virtual Reality and it appears to be the technological innovation that will finally launch virtual reality on the mainstream. But just as this prediction seemed to come true, the Corona Virus pandemic spread around the world, locking us all up in the house and letting virtual reality take other paths.
Of course, virtual reality has yet to find its place among the general public. And it is likely that, in the next future, there will be VR arcades, which we cannot do without.
2) GIOVANNI FANTONI MODENA| CCO and Co-Founder of Vitruvian VR
Together with Michele Ghedina, Niccolò Galiazzo and Adriano del Moro, Giovanni founded VVR Srl in 2019.
During his speech, Giovanni talked about the genesis of the first Vitruvian VR simulator and the current developments of the Vitruvian VR 4xs, the first ready-to-market product of the company.”
3) MARCO ARENA | Co-Founder of BEYOND THE GATE
Beyond the Gate has created VR edutainment experiences that bring their users to the heart of culture and history. Their first experience, Beyond the Castle, brought more than 10000 users back in time to enjoy the Sforza Castle of Milan as a medieval archer.
During his speech, Marco spoke about the risks and opportunities of Location Based Entertainment VR in museums providing lessons learned in developing an edutainment experience and running it for 18 months with tourists, schools and families.
4) ALESSANDRO MARTIRE | CEO of THE PORTAL
Talk name: “LBVR for all. How to design a VR experience that everyone can use.”
Alessandro explored the complications and advantages of designing VR games without buttons through the lens of The Portal. Alessandro also explained how the process of testing multiple methods takes place to give clear player feedback without tutorials, using the previous life experience of the players to make them interact, progress and having fun into the VR experience.
He showed how you can get an experience that is natural, without having to use controllers, to be used in Location Based VR. At the end he presented the challenges and discoveries made by The Portal team when designing VR games for LBVR.
Every AWE Nite Florence, Antony Vitillo managed the final debate, with great skill.
