Flying Into The Metaverse Through Books & Culture is honored to host Sonya Haskins!
I met Sonya for the first time in Lisbon in October, during AWE EU 2022, and I asked her if I could record this interview. Sonya is the Head of Programming at AWE (Augmented World Expo) and she found a singular moment for me behind the scenes of the stage. The talks were follow one another and throughout the interview she continued to control what was happening on stage, listening to it through the headphones she was holding, while she spoke to me about her experience in the VR world, about the 8 books she wrote, of the honors she won as the first seated player in the VR League and the first female player to advance to regionals in North America… This was an extraordinary interview, with an extraordinary woman!

BIOGRAPHY of SONYA HASKINS
Sonya is an advocate for positive, inclusive communities and serves as Head of Programming at AWE (Augmented World Expo).
She was the first seated player in the VR League and the first female player to advance to regionals in North America.
In 2019, Sonya founded VR Community Builders, a community-driven group focused on outreach. She believes immersive technology can have positive impacts on healthcare, education, mental health, business and other aspects of our lives. This work has led to interviews by Intel and the Washington Post, among other publications.
Sonya has written 8 books and lives in Southeast Tennessee.
