Company Description
Astrid is a product from Gagarin, who have 27 years of experience in creating rich, award-winning, immersive, interactive experiences for museums and public spaces. We saw an obvious connection between museums and education and a need to design climate change education in a way which engages and empowers both youth and their teachers.
Garden of Choices is our first product in the Astrid suite. It is a virtual reality role playing game for youth to discuss and debate climate change issues. Youth learn and debate together in the same physical space whilst also being together in a virtual space. As they encounter a variety of climate change issues, they must decide which future decisions would be best for people, planet and economy.
What do you plan to announce at AWE?
We are bringing our unique, multi-player VR educational experience, the Garden of Choices to AWE (read more here: https://astrid.is/garden-of-choices/) and at AWE we will announce that our next area of VR research and development will be within the Arctic Ocean – we are working with scientists and researchers to uncover the most pressing issues of our time including biodiversity, micro-plastics, and ocean warming. This marks a new direction for Astrid – a foray into the cold, deep waters of the Arctic Ocean which directly impact the rest of the planet.
Company Description
CleverPoint utilizes VR technology, proprietary measurement equipment, algorithms and analytics to bring science-backed data to the people’s development and mental health support.
Our technology, built into the VR headset, captures the electrical activity of the brain, the activity of the cardiovascular and autonomic nervous systems. In VR, we cognitively load the respondent and fix the reaction of his physiology. Upon completion of the 20-minute test, Clever Point EVA automatically generates a report on the psychophysiological state of a person, highlights areas of cognitive and physiological development, and makes recommendations on which simulators built into the solution are suitable for improving the cognitive and/or physiological state.
The mission of CleverPoint is to help managers understand the cause-and-effect relationships that underlie their physiology and behavior. Managers and employees begin to understand that in their team there are people with different psychophysiological profiles, and they react differently to the same production load. People learn to accept other team members for who they are. They value not only similarities, but also differences. We call this physiological diversity and inclusion.
This is an opportunity to eliminate bias, prevent burnout and employee loss, and to enable empathy, emotional intelligence, leadership, more productive teams, and increased retention.
What do you plan to announce at AWE?
During the exhibition, anyone can get to know themselves with the help of our solution. To do this, you need to visit our booth, spend 20 minutes in virtual reality and get a fairly large and detailed report.
The solution is currently available in English, French and Polish.
Also, anyone can practice on a breathing simulator with biofeedback in virtual reality. In the process of breathing, the user will be able to observe their physiological parameters and observe how they change depending on the breath.

InterDigital Announces Collaboration with Philips on Video-Based Immersive Codec Research to Enable XR Opportunities
Partners showcase latest V3C immersive codec contributions at AWE XR Expo
WILMINGTON, Del., October 20, 2022 – Today, InterDigital, Inc. (NASDAQ: IDCC) announced a collaboration with Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA) to jointly develop MPEG Visual Volumetric Video-based Coding (V3C) immersive codecs to the benefit of telepresence and XR-driven experiences. As part of the collaboration, InterDigital and Philips will demonstrate the impact and benefit of these technologies in critical industry use cases. During the AWE XR Expo on October 20-21, the partners will display video-based MPEG V3C codecs and associated system layers for 6DoF, VR and AR content streaming, for XR use cases like telelearning.
The MPEG V3C standard defines the general mechanism for coding and streaming volumetric content. The first two main codecs associated with MPEG V3C standard are Video-based Point Cloud Compression (V-PCC) for point clouds data transmission and MPEG Immersive Video (MIV) for multi-views with depth content. Volumetric video is a critical component to create and enjoy increasingly immersive experiences made popular through XR applications. Unlike traditional video, volumetric video is comprised of a sequence of frames, where each frame is a 3D representation of a real-world object or scene capture from a moment in time. Volumetric content requires significant bandwidth, and compression is crucial to achieve data rates that are sustainable and economically viable for the industry. Standards like MPEG V3C play a critical role in reaching this reality and ensuring interoperability for new and emerging experiences.
The collaboration will leverage each partner’s research expertise – InterDigital will contribute expertise on immersive codecs, including V3C Systems and V-PCC and MIV extensions. In addition to its contribution to MIV and V3C systems standards, Philips will contribute critical six degrees of freedom (6DoF) immersive codec technologies in the areas of image reconstruction and rendering. Together, the partners will integrate their technologies to enhance the benefit to emerging immersive experiences.
“We take pride in our unique research expertise at InterDigital, and our industry impact is only amplified through the application of collaborative research with esteemed partners like Philips,” said Rajesh Pankaj, EVP and Chief Technology Officer, InterDigital. “Our technology contributions ensure greater efficiency and sharper outcomes when processing volumetric content and make the desire for increasingly immersive experiences a reality.”
“Implementing real-time volumetric video will enable a much more realistic immersive experience, fostering remote collaboration, training and support in various sectors,” said Jako Eleveld, Head of IP Licensing, Philips. “By adopting an open innovation approach, we can use our technology and intellectual property to bring innovations to the market through Philips propositions, and those of partners. Our collaboration with InterDigital will help to demonstrate the benefits of the MPEG V3C standard and its V-PCC and MIV extensions to accelerate its adoption across industries.”
InterDigital and Philips will showcase the latest results of their immersive codec collaboration within InterDigital’s booth at the AWE XR expo in Portugal from October 20 – 21. Specifically, the partners will showcase an immersive telelearning application that leverages new V3C standards, including V-PCC and MIV codecs.
In addition, InterDigital’s Video Solutions Director Valerie Allie will explain at AWE XR how this collaborative project contributes to V3C codecs that enable more efficient volumetric video-based media streaming. Her presentation “Video-Based Immersive Codecs for Telelearning and XR Experiences” will be delivered on October 20 at 16:35 CET at Sala1 – XR Enablement track.

Valkyrie EIR armbands simulate muscle resistance in VR fitness games, released summer 2023
LONDON, 18 October 2022: Valkyrie Industries announced that it has opened preorders for Valkyrie EIR, a set of haptic armbands that provides unprecedented interactive resistance for the arm muscles. The armbands pair with EIR Training, the first VR training experience that takes full advantage of the hardware. By using electrical muscle stimulation (EMS), Valkyrie EIR is designed to maximise full-body cardio workouts for fitness fans. The armbands will start shipping summer 2023.
Valkyrie EIR pads provide a profound feeling of resistance to your actions, amplifying the VR workout. The EMS contracts muscles using controlled electrical impulses, making exercises feel tougher and rewarding in less time. The armbands also create actual feedback stimulation on your arm according to your movements, with the intensity changing depending on activities such as how strongly you pull a virtual cable, how quickly you lift a virtual dumbbell, or how hard you hit a virtual punching bag.
Highlights of Valkyrie EIR:
Simulating muscle resistance: Uses EMS to improve muscle resistance across biceps and triceps on right and left arms;
Low latency: Provides real-time feedback to gameplay (10ms delay);
Flexible: Tight simulation controls, including intensity, frequency, and pulse-width;
VR headsets: Works with the Meta Quest / Quest 2.
Valkyrie EIR also works with EIR Training, which was unveiled at the same time. Featuring full-body HIIT classes, professional PT’s and stunning environments, EIR Training combines the immersiveness of VR workouts with the health benefits of cardio workouts and electrical muscle stimulation. The classes are full-body workouts, carefully curated to make sure different muscle groups are targeted with each exercise.
Example classes in EIR Training:
Cable HIIT: You will use virtual cable machines and elastic bands to push and pull – all while feeling your muscles tense with a strength equivalent to up to 4KG, thanks to the EMS signal.
Dumbbell HIIT: The exercises span from slow, mindful dumbbell exercises to quick pace cardiovascular dumbbell movements and quick punches in all possible directions.
BoxFit: This session consists of a variety of challenging shadow boxing exercises, practising uppercuts, jabs, and hooks. The Valkyrie EIR armbands help the arms feel heavier and heavier over time.
Free roam mode: Immerse yourself in virtual gyms, surrounded by stunning vistas, at your own speed.
“The powerful feeling of resistance is integral to the best workout routines,” said Ivan Isakov, Co-Founder and CTO of Valkyrie Industries. “We wanted to push the boundaries of immersion for the millions of fitness fans that work out in VR every day. Valkyrie EIR is the next step in that journey, as we build on our expertise with haptic technologies.”
The Valkyrie EIR armbands are available to preorder from today for $150 / £150 / €150, and can be ordered with 25% discount for a limited time. Deliveries will start in summer 2023. Meanwhile, EIR Training is available from today in the App Lab.

Wonderland Engine Backgrounder
WonderlandTM is a startup based in Cologne, Germany. The company’s flagship product is the
Wonderland Engine, enabling developers to easily build highly-performant VR, AR and 3D
graphics applications optimized for unmatched Web performance. Wonderland was founded in
May of 2020 by CEO/CTO Jonathan Hale – the company is venture-backed (numbers have not
been disclosed) and currently employs 12 people worldwide. The Engine is in Version .9, with
the 1.0 version expected to ship later in the year.
Using Wonderland Engine, a code or scene change can be reflected in the browser with
exceptional speed. Due to its rapid-iteration mindset and focus on the browser,
Wonderland-based developers can launch their first running app into the browser in less than
two minutes. With a bit of experience, they can build a multi-user environment supporting VR,
AR and 3D in 10 minutes.
Specifically, Wonderland Engine is a development platform for Web-based graphics and XR
applications, taking full advantage of the latest Web3D graphics and audio APIs, including
WebGL2, WebXR Device API, WebAudio and eventually, WebGPU. It comes with an accessible
3D editor application – the Wonderland Editor – and an efficient WebAssembly-based runtime
that runs in the browser.
An ideal alternative to native platform-based 3D solutions from Epic® and Unity®, Wonderland
Engine allows developers to easily import 3D assets into the Wonderland Editor and then export
their new game or app to view in the browser quickly and efficiently.
Wonderland Engine’s optimized WebAssembly-based runtime and shaders allow developers to
do more in their WebXR apps. Better performance means more meshes, more textures, more
animation, while better performance also means more development time for your actual app.
The Wonderland Engine’s JavaScript API allows flexibly integrating other libraries and Browser
APIs directly into projects. Implement custom, reusable components and configure them in the
editor – in this way, artists can easily make use of previously-built code from a range of sources.
Just one example of how Wonderland Engine emphasizes performance is its unique support for
Dual Quaternions.
Traditional graphics frameworks use Matrices for storing transformations of
objects, and Dual Quaternions only for representing poses of bones in skinned characters.
As Dual Quaternions require less memory to store and fewer floating point operations to
multiply, Wonderland uses Dual Quaternions to represent transformations for both objects and
bone poses, resulting in increased performance.
